Poem for Melissa Fry Beasley*

golden sun

remember when you were a child
afraid of the darkness
you hid yourself, pretending to be invisible
peeking glimpses of an entire world just waiting
until the dawn
when all the ghosts
disappeared in the light
but you took the sun for granted
she reached for you
with innocuous intentions
she held you tightly
with open arms
for you to come
for you to go
as it pleased you
she only wanted to please you
she only wanted to love you
to smile stars into the heavens for you
she accepted you
and the possible pain…of a single touch
you see, she knows the poignant fragility
of the human heart
but she also knows sincerity
sincerity means
‘without wax’
the beautiful perfection of imperfection
it is that beloved dented teapot
its place of distinction on the shelf
no other tea from no other pot
tastes as soothing nor as sweet
it is that cherished vase, broken
its cracks filled in with liquid gold
it beguiles its freshly picked flowers like no other
and ruminates in the sunlight
like The Golden Fleece
the sun offered you sincerity
she had no greater gift to give
and asked only for that in return
she wouldn’t have taken it for granted
so, when you grow weary of hiding your cracks
and cowering under covers
peeking glimpses of an entire world just waiting
her light will still be there
reaching for you in all sincerity
while the ghosts all drown in melted wax
and liquid gold pours down out of the heavens
from dented tea pots

    1. From one soulful writer to another, thank you Scottie…great of you to comment. Melissa is a dear and beautiful soul. Did you read her “Poem for Nena Black” (link at the end above)? It touched me so deeply and moved me to respond in kind to its poignancy. With light as always! ♥
